January Nannyversaries

Nannies on Call thrives because of the dedication and enthusiasm of our hundreds of Extraordinary Nannies. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the on call nannies that are celebrating their “Nannyversaries” this month:

Red Light! Green Light! Pink Light!

Start somewhere there is a lot of open space. Ask the children to think of a traffic light and ask them to define Red, Yellow and Green. If they don’t know, say “Green light means go fast,” “Yellow light means go slowly” and “Red Light means stop.”

Nannies and Divorce: Three Helpful Tips

Divorce has become such a widespread issue that it affects many families nowadays. As a nanny, this means that you may encounter families and children who are facing challenges that come about due to the impact of divorce. As each family is different, each situation that is impacted by divorce will also present different obstacles and challenges.

Hiring a Nanny: Where to Start

Whether or not you plan to utilize the services of a nanny agency, you should come up with a “profile” that matches the exact person who you are seeking prior to starting the search for a nanny. This profile will be crucial to find the perfect match for your family’s needs and personality. Many parents find it hard to pinpoint the characteristics that they are seeking in a nanny, but it is crucial to know exactly what (or who) you are looking for before you start the search. This is the person who will be in charge of the safe keeping of your children while you are gone!

Mini Pizzas

This is a simple kid-friendly snack, super easy and great for lunches, after-school snacks or a light dinner. And kids enjoy picking out their own toppings and making their own food. It’s easiest to have everything prepared, then the child can put on their own sauce and toppings. (Encourage them to use vegetables to make pizza faces!)

Autism Awareness

Have you ever cared for a child with autism? If you haven’t, you likely will – as autism affects 1 in every 110 children in North America. Working for a family living life on the autism spectrum will be one of the best things you will ever do for our global village, and for yourself. Here are a few tips as to how to take this journey with an open heart and an active mind:

Manny (male nanny) – first impressions

It is always an interesting experience when you meet your clients for the first time. There are a few little butterflies that zoom around, while you wonder, “What are the parent’s expectations going to be? Will they have routines? What are kids like? Are they high energy or book readers? Will they like the bag of ‘tricks’ that I have planned for them?”

Nanny Cams: Should You Get One?

“Nanny cams” have become quite the controversial subject for a variety of different reasons. In private homes, the question of whether an individual’s privacy is being invaded comes up, but in organizations such as daycares, parents are glad to have the opportunity to “check in” on their children through means of complicated surveillance systems that are placed in the daycare facilities and linked in with the Internet.
