For today’s nannies, getting ready for tax time can be daunting. Sorting through a mountain of paperwork is a most unwelcome chore to anyone with work commitments and family obligations. Whether you do your taxes personally or simplify your life by using a professional accountant, you must collect, sort and organize the required documents.
The following tips will help ease the stress of tax season.
1. Locate the necessary forms and papers and store them together in a file folder or envelope. Your folder should include:

Start somewhere there is a lot of open space. Ask the children to think of a traffic light and ask them to define Red, Yellow and Green. If they don’t know, say “Green light means go fast,” “Yellow light means go slowly” and “Red Light means stop.”

So, here’s the situation: a severe snow storm swoops through for two days, many of the streets are out of the question to travel on and quite a few businesses don’t even open due to the inclement weather. You and your husband, were able to get to work. Your nanny, of about three months now, called to tell you that she attempted to get to your house, to no avail – there were road closures in every direction. The streets were terrible and she would not make it to work, so you quickly call your niece, who lives down the street, and ask her to step in as the nanny for the day.

It’s not a surprise that families who are hiring nannies contemplate ways to pool their resources and save money, but it may come as a surprise to the nanny! When we send out a nanny to a family that says they have only two children and the nanny shows up to find out that she is in charge of five children, this can pose as a problem.

Reading books to your newborn can be a great bonding time for you and your baby. Newborns love to hear your voice and cuddle up, so what better thing to do than to read to them? In addition, your baby will start learning about language and reading as you read books to them. Your soothing voice, colorful and stimulating pictures and all kinds of new words will bring a whole new world to your baby while s/he is still in familiar surroundings.

This is a great craft for the colder months. However, it also looks great in the summer time – although it doesn’t last as long, it’s just as much fun to make. First you make and freeze coloured ice cubes in a tray. Red is nice but a combo of blue/yellow/green looks fab! Then you fill cake pans half way with water and put in freezer, or in the winter time, on the front porch.

At Nannies on Call we require all of our nannies to write a letter to the family to go with their resume. The Letter to the Family is like a cover letter specific for the nanny industry. Many nanny jobs are highly competitive and this is a quick way for families to differentiate one nanny from another.

We have heard this question many times from parents and wanted to provide our opinion. Although each situation will be different, it is quite customary to feed your guests while they are at your house. Isn’t it? In addition, your nanny/sitter is left to care for your children and when your children eat, they will most likely eat better while sitting down at the table and eating with someone.

When meeting a family for the first time, there’s always that distinct tingling feeling of butterflies dancing in your stomach. This occurs not just for the nanny, but for the children and parents as well. When first meeting with children, it is generally a good idea to bring along something that will break the ice and grab the children’s attention while the parents quietly scoot out the door.
